Tennessee’s First Family Owned Pizza
Robert Fortner had a dream of providing the finest pizza in a family friendly environment. At the time his family lived in Muncie, Indiana and would occasionally dine out at Pizza King. In 1965 our father bought the licensing right to Sir Pizza of TN because he fell in love with the State of Tennessee while driving through on their way to Florida for a family vacation. He knew Tennessee was where he wanted to move his family. Today, Sir Pizza is an acknowledged leader in the pizza industry and offers family-friendly dining to patrons across the globe.
How It Started
Robert Fortner bought the licensing right to Sir Pizza for the state of Tennessee in 1965, and moved his family to Murfreesboro. We opened our first store in Jackson Heights Plaza on Broad Street in Murfreesboro. Robert, known by all as Bob, greeted the customers and ran the register getting to know everyone who walked through the Sir Pizza doors. His daughter Nona Gene waited tables, his oldest son Rod ran the kitchen and ovens while his wife Nona and youngest son Bruce worked in the Commissary making fresh dough and cooking homemade spaghetti sauce.

At Fortner Foods, our commissary operation, we strive for the best quality product we can make. Fortner Foods is a USDA & FDA inspected plant. We make everything from scratch. Our pizza dough is always fresh and never frozen, which makes our original crust unlike any other in the industry. We have worked hard to keep our recipes the exact same for over the last 50 years by not sacrificing quality or taste for a less expensive product. Our cheese has always come straight from the dairy farms of Wisconsin. Our homemade spaghetti sauce and marinara sauces are prepared fresh as well as our signature Blue Cheese dressing and wing sauces. We offer a variety of products including spaghetti, lasagna, calzones, wings and our new knight knots will have you craving more. Our pizzas are cut in squares and our toppings are generous and “Good to the very Edge” so you get a little taste of every flavor when you take a bite.
